up grade to ie 6

I have an version 5.1 am running windows xp i have a n hp laptop. i would
like to upgrade but after i download ie 6 it will not let me install, it
say's i already have the most current verion installed. I do not know how to
uninstall the other version. Jerry

If you have XP, then you have IE6 already.
IE6 is the base version for XP and the 5.1 you quote is probably the
version of Windows, not the version of IE.
What shows in IE-Help-About for the version of IE?
